What a saga and the details are illuminating. Don’t move again.

I have always been curious about your choice of Las Vegas as a retirement home. Is that explained in an earlier SMC piece? If so Id like to read it. Hope your spirits are not too down after yesterday's beat down of the Yanks. Very good description of your journey and loved the pics of the pups.

Mike- both our sons were in LA. Florida wasn’t for us. Too competitive and stereotype. Vegas we always like and just seemed like a natural. Wouldn’t change that decision seven years later. Shana Tova.

Great blog. I’ve done a trip like yours and it was a lot of fun. Glad u moved to Vegas because if u didn’t, it would be hard to explain why I’m receiving your blog.

Moving across country is an experience not to be missed. In 1993, we each drove our cars from northern Virginia to LV. Never been here but hubby was transferred from D.C. so off we went. 5 yr old drove with me & had fun encouraging the big truckers to blow their horns for her, which they gladly did. Arrive in LV 7 days later to find our apartment wasn’t ready for us. So we holed up in the Santa Fe for a couple days. Found a body on the bed as we started to enter the room. Didn’t know if they were dead or passed out. Back down to the front desk to report & got another room. They didn’t seem too bothered by the body so I guess it was something that happened all the time.

I can sympathize with your moving and all the associated "surprises!" Being in the Air Force for 25 years we moved something like 13 times. There's no such thing as a single move; you move out and then you move in. That's two moves anyway you cut it. Then consider all the items you give away to neighbors you can't take with you!! Booze, condiments and perishables to name a few. In 1975 I left the Air Force Academy for my tour in West Germany and when I reported to Mcquire AFB for departure with family in tow I was told my plane left the day before. My orders were screwed up due to a clerical error. No fun at all with a three-year-old son! We survived and prospered! Thanks for reminding me of the good ole days! Come see us in December.
